Digging out the Pride in you isn’t easy because it is the very part of your ego or ‘I’; honor and dignity attached with human race is the source of pride.
One form of pride is domination which is the fundamental feature of human nature. Remember, domination is both positive (in the sense that it causes men and women to be closer to each other and thus is the source of relationships which further bring power and wealth and the whole social set up)and negative (when domination is the source of exploitation, tyranny and pride). So a person is balanced when he or she knows how to make the positive use of this tendency of domination present in his nature as pride etc.?
One way is therefore to trace out the limits of your longings and aspirations making you dominate over others including your brothers, sisters, classmates and the rest of people in a relationship with you.
Recall to the past events of your conflict or disagreement with people—your friends, colleagues etc. If you thought yourself to be right, what was then your attitude? And, in case of thinking yourself wrong, how much you were changed by it?
In such situations of being accused by others, did you experience an intense state of sorrow or tension of frustration?
Do you think that your sadness or frustration or anger, in case if your friends and colleagues quarreled and departed, was the outcome of your sense of failure that you couldn’t make these people surrendered to you?
Exercise
Move deep into yourself to analyze your behavior on those occasions when you speak good words or advocate certain principles of morality so that you may impose yourself upon others to make them behave as you want. To this end, can you recall and recognize the bad effects of those decisions/ judgments caused by your pride?
Can you identify your pride in terms of the behavior of other, particularly those who were unhappy with you? At all costs, avoid the similar situations of error and misjudgments caused by your pride.
Learn the ways and means in terms of which you can be more and more humble in all sorts of behavior on all places.
Are you more tolerable than others? If not, how can you make yourself so?
Find out the moments when your habit of being stubborn stopped yourself to embrace the truth after it was Christly clear to you that you are at least not on the right side.
Find out what makes you over-confident
In keeping your temperament and turn of mind, do you find yourself in a position to prepare a list of measures you are needed to avoid the dominance of proud self over your overall behavior?
Note down the ordinary situations of life simply because others came to hit your pride or sense of domination.
